My company is not planning to get any cover for my role while I'm on maternity leave. Do I have a say in this?
I'm going on maternity leave in July and plan to take 7 months. I have just found out that my boss is not planning to get any cover for my job role while I am away, and instead my duties will be distributed amongst my colleagues while I am away. I'm gutted because I feel this undermines the importance of my role, and I honestly work so hard and am always busy! Personally I think me and my colleagues have too much work to do as it is without them having to take on other duties, and they feel the same. They have told me that they don't think they will be able to cope taking on my work as well. Is there anything I can do? I feel awful for my colleagues and worried that the company will make me redundant if they think they can cope without me for 7 months (especially since there have already been several redundancies in my company recently)! Please help, this has really upset me :-(
