Family defamation suits and ual aults..?

The short answer is that anyone can sue anyone else for anything. The judge can't decide if the case is valid before the complaint is even filed. So, if you are sued, the question is whether the complaint will say all that you said (unlikely) and nothing more than what you said (even more unlikely). So, if you are sued, in all likelihood you will have to defend. In order to prevail in a slander suit the plaintiff would have to prove that you uttered statements of fact, not opinion, and that those statements were false, and that they tended to defame someone's character, and that they were heard by third parties (including family) and that they were believed and that the plaintiff suffered tangible financial harm as a result.
