Violinists: Any recommendations for something a little easier than the Sibelius Violin Concerto?

I have this tendency to pick stuff beyond my ability. Although I've never actually attempted them, I really like the Beethoven Violin Concerto and Mozart's Fifth Violin Concerto. The Sibelius is a bit out of my reach (maybe more than a bit,) and the Mendelssohn E-minor concerto just barely within reach. Am I going to be in over my head again if I attempt the Beethoven or the Mozart? What about the Barber concerto? Any other recommendations? I cannot really afford lessons right now, so I'm doing this on my own.
